FAQ

What is a furry?
A furry (plural: furries) is a buzz word for anthropomorphic creatures, simply put – a humanoid creature or being with animal characteristics. Each furry usually has a Fursona (synonymous to a “persona”) one or several (also known as hybrids) animal characteristics. Common species include canines, felines as well as dragons, while exotic choices range from marsupials to cetaceans. There are no specific rules on what the animal characteristics can go on a furry character, which encourages and nurtures creativeness and diversity in the Furry Fandom. Imagination is the limit!

What is the Furry Fandom?
The Furry Fandom is largely an artistic interest group, similar to the fan clubs spawned from fictional universes such as Japanese Anime, Star Wars and Dr Who. The people in the fandom come from all walks of life, all over the world, sharing the same interests of anthropomorphic animals. Some connect to the fandom through their general love for animals or their pets, while some see it as an animal-spiritual bond. There is also a thriving and vibrant art scene in the fandom largely comprised of painters, illustrators, animators and cartoonists, as well as a large performing scene where furries dress up like animal mascots. These are primary mediums in which the fandom expresses this interest for anthropomorphic animals.

What are those animal costumes I see?
Those mascots costumes are what you call fursuits, technically a buzzword for furry-suit costume.

When are the meets?
Smaller meets are usually organized by members of the group on ad-hoc basis and does not follow a regular schedule. The bigger meets usually coincide with anime and cosplay conventions in Singapore or South-East Asia. Other events of notable interest include: New Year’s day and Halloween celebrations.

Where are the meets?
SGFurs meets are private events held in either public or private venues, but we are open to all furries and their guests, not the general public or journalists.

Can I attend SGfurs meets?
SGFurs events are generally suitable for all ages. However, there may be instances where a minimum age may be applicable or inherited for certain events, venues or conventions. All participants must observe the rules and regulations set by the event’s organizer and the Laws of Singapore. Any participant found flouting the rules will be told to leave the event and may be barred from attending future activities.

Can I bring my non-furry friend along?
Sure! We only request that you inform the event organizer of your friend’s attendance beforehand. Also, it will be good to introduce them to the fandom in general like explaining to them what a furry is by directing them to this FAQ page.

How can I join the SGFurs?
SGFurs is a free community interest group with over 100 members. Joining is free. However, as much as we want to keep SGfurs as an open group, entry to the group is subjected by a case-by-case basis to protect the interest of current members. Do drop the SGFurs team an introduction shout out by completing this contact form, we’d love to hear from you!

I am an overseas Fur visiting Singapore, how can I link up with SGFurs during my visit?
At SGFurs, we recognize that the Furry Fandom has a strong global presence. Singapore’s strategic location sees a significantly large number of foreign visiting furs annually. We are known to be a very hospitable group and we have not turned down any request to host and entertain any visiting foreign furs. Have a place in mind to visit? Heard of a local dish you’d love to try? We will be glad to recommend! If you see yourself coming down Singapore and wish to meet the furry group here, do feel free to reach us on this contact form. Do note that members of SGFurs are doing this purely out of a voluntarily basis and are subjected to availability.
