Anthrocon 2017, SG Furries on deck!

When it comes to furry conventions, Anthrocon is known worldwide as the world’s largest of such conventions in the world. It is a mega furry convention, or simply put an event for those fascinated with the world of anthropomorphics.

It is held every year at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Anthrocon is a key event on the Pittsburgh annual tourist calendar, with visitors flocking form all over America and even the world for the weekend, from 2015 always coincides with the United States 4th of July weekend celebrations. Things around Pittsburgh are even much friendlier than our last Anthrocon experience in 2012. Even the town and businesses were all decked with big welcome for our furry visitors!

Take Me Out To The Ballgame with Charlie Adler

The convention’s theme for this year was “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” with Guest of Honor being Charlie Adler, he is a professional voice actor and voice director. Even if you had not seen him in person, he is the voice of Buster Bunny in Tiny Toon Adventures, as well as a number of Cartoon Network shows, such as Cow and Chicken, and The Red Guy in Cow and Chicken and I Am Weasel, to even blockbuster hits such as Starscream in the Transformers film series.

Our resident SG Fur, @BraveWolf1984 was there to attend his first ever Anthrocon this July, who met up with @SinghaTheLion- our Singapore fur abroad.

Anthrocon?

Coined as the largest gathering of furries under one roof, Anthrocon also probably sees the largely collection of artists, writers (including renowned novelists), fursuits (which includes performing costumers and puppeteers) and plain everyday fans who appreciate and enjoy the world of cartoon animals and their kin.

Entry to the convention is via pre-registered paid entry and is open to any and all people from all walks at all ages. There is also on-the spot registrations for attendees who wasn’t able to have a pre-booking in-hand, though the prices will be significantly higher. Entry will grant you access to the entire convention center, which is booked entirely for the convention.

Trademark convention events will see the dealers den, the largest in the world, as well as record-setting number of fursuiters who attend the fursuit walk every year. The convention of 2017 saw 7,544 attendees, including 1,890 fursuiters in the fursuit parade, checkout the fursuit crowd!

Anthrocon 2017- 1,890 Fursuiters!

Why the name Anthrocon? The name came about from the longer word it is derived from, namely Anthro-pomorphics or what we can call “Anthro” for short, therefore the convention shortform name “Anthro-con”. This came about from the perception of furries, which are predominantly human-like mostly bi-pedal animal characters (there are also exceptions such as quad-legged fursuits) which the convention attendees dress-up as.

Such Anthromorpshism had been dated since the cave ages and had always fascinated mankind since the dawn of human imagination.

The convention also hosted the 2016 Ursa Major Awards, as well as raising $37,598 in the convention charity for the Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary, new milestones for the convention. With Anthrocon 2017 come and gone in the blink of an eye, the next Anthrocon is scheduled to run next year from July 5-8, scheduled again in beautiful Pittsburgh, PA.

Definitely be looking forward to that!

Many thanks to @BraveWolf1984 for sharing and providing the photos of his adventures.
